Find answers to common questions before your first visit, including how to prepare for treatment, what to wear, and what to expect during your consultation.
Yes. Acupuncture is generally considered very safe when performed by a qualified practitioner using sterile, single-use needles. Your treatment is always tailored to your individual health needs.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing if possible. Most acupuncture points can be accessed by rolling up sleeves or trouser legs, and towels or blankets are provided for your comfort and privacy.
Yes. It’s recommended to have a light meal or snack before your appointment. Avoid arriving on an empty stomach, as this can make you feel light-headed during treatment.
Yes. Acupuncture can be safely adapted during pregnancy when provided by a practitioner experienced in pregnancy care. Always let us know if you are pregnant or think you may be.
Learn what happens during your appointment, how acupuncture feels, the type of needles used, and the length of each session.
Yes. All acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use, and disposed of immediately after each treatment, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
Most people find acupuncture comfortable and relaxing. The needles are extremely fine, so you may feel a brief sensation as they’re inserted, followed by a dull ache, warmth, tingling, or heaviness, which are all normal.
Your initial consultation lasts approximately 90 minutes, while follow-up appointments are usually 60 minutes. This includes time for discussion, assessment, and treatment.
Your first appointment includes a detailed consultation about your health, symptoms, lifestyle, and medical history. A Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment, including tongue and pulse diagnosis, is carried out before your personalised acupuncture treatment begins.
Discover what you may experience after your session, including relaxation, aftercare advice, and when you can return to your normal activities.
Yes. Most patients are able to drive home after treatment. As acupuncture is deeply relaxing, if you feel unusually tired afterwards, it’s best to rest before driving.
Side effects are generally mild and uncommon. Some people experience slight bruising, temporary soreness, or feel relaxed or tired after treatment. These effects usually settle quickly.
The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and your treatment goals. Your practitioner will discuss a personalised treatment plan during your consultation.
Try to stay well hydrated, avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day, and allow yourself time to relax if possible. Following any personalised aftercare advice will help you get the most from your treatment.
